Longwood U. Addresses Recent Attacks

Farmville, VA - Students at Longwood University in Farmville are on high alert after a string of recent attacks- both on and off campus.

According to students, it's taking a toll on the environment.

Students say they received notification from the university that the beatings are typical of gang initiation actions.

Longwood police say they have not confirmed that this is gang related and all incidents are under investigation.

Student Robbie Horn said, "If someone has to walk alone I prefer to walk with them."

"We had an incident a couple days ago where somebody was just beat down to the ground for like no reason at 10 o'clock at night," student Joshua Meyers said.

Longwood University says they are proud of their record on campus safety.

They held a campus forum Monday to address safety concerns both on and off campus.

Students were advised to follow basic guidelines of not walking alone at night, remain aware of surroundings and report suspicious activities immediately.
