Lynchburg, VA - Liberty University lit up its campus Christmas tree Monday.
It's the very first time Liberty's put a massive Christmas tree outside. Chancellor Jerry Falwell Jr. says the idea had been tossed around for a while and this year they finally did it. It stands in front of DeMoss Hall. They got it from a farm in Pennsylvania.
Students sang Christmas carols and drank hot chocolate before they turned the tree's white lights on. Some say Liberty is a unique campus at Christmas.
"It's really awesome to be on a campus where you have Christmas spirit and it feels like home, so it's really enjoyable," said Elizabeth Codario, Liberty freshman.
Falwell Junior made an appearance for the lighting. He says a nativity scene will go up Tuesday.
