Lynchburg, VA - Right now, about 40 Lynchburg College students are learning strategies to deal with conflicts. They are part of the Allies Institute, sponsored by the Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities.
They arrived Wednesday afternoon and will spend the next couple days discussing topics on social issues such as prejudice, gender, conflict resolution, self-esteem and body image, among other things.
Organizers say students will gain valuable leadership skills. They will also develop their own action plans to bring about change on their campus. Students applied for various reasons.
"I'm a sociology major, so I'm always looking for opportunities to experience diversity within different communities. So that's really what I expect to get from this place, and I hear it's really interesting," LC student Skylor Morton said.
