Gretna, VA- The Pittsylvania County Sheriff's office has arrested and charged a Gretna man with the second degree murder of a seven-month-old infant.
Deputies responded to calls of shots fired at 136 Ramsey Road around 6:15 a.m. on Sunday. Upon arriving on the scene deputies discovered a seven-month-old infant had been shot. The baby was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators arrested 21-year-old Nikko Lemar King, in connection with the infant's death. King was charged with second degree murder, and possession of a firearm after being convicted of a felony.
King is currently being held at the Pittsylvania County jail with no bond. King's first court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday, January 18.
Deputies say the investigation into the cause of the infant's death is ongoing. Investigators say it appears that the infant's death may be domestic in nature.
The body will be transported to the Medical Examiner's Office in Roanoke, Virginia for examination and the official cause of death.
