Lynchburg, VA - Thursday during halftime of the Liberty University basketball game, many of LU's athletes were honored for their work on the Spread the Word to End the Word Campaign.
The campaign, started by the Special Olympics, hopes to stop people from using the word "retarded."
More than 200 of LU's athletes took part and Thursday night they invited the Special Olympics athletes to run out of the tunnel with the team.
Directors say it's the first time an entire college athletic department has taken on the pledge.
