If you're wondering why you haven't seen me on air this week, it's because I'm on vacation. I'm having the time of my life in the Caribbean spending my days on the beach and my nights at fun restaurants. It's definitely what a vacation should be- time away from the stresses of everyday life. You might think right now isn't the best time to go vacation to some faraway place but I bought my tickets months ago- and I've discovered this short break away from reality is exactly what I needed.
I'm fortunate in that I love what I do for a living, but anyone will agree that constantly checking email and making phone calls can make life pretty stressful. To be honest, I can't remember the last time I went a single day without checking email until this week. It feels good. I couldn't live like this forever though. Not knowing what's going on back home- or in the world for that matter- makes me a little anxious.
I'm here for a few more days and I'm going to make the most of it. There's still plenty of summer left and hopefully you'll be able to make the most of it too. If you're looking for a great place to go on vacation, check out some places that aren't in tourist season (like the Caribbean!). You'll find amazing deals, especially right now. If you prefer to stay closer to home, be sure to take your staycation seriously by getting rid of all the serious stuff in your life. Don't check your email and turn off your work phone - at least for a few days. You'll only do yourself a disservice by spending your off-time... on the clock. You might find that taking time away from work will actually help you when you're back in the office. You'll be more focused and less stressed (that's what I'm hoping for). I'm going to soak up the sun these next few days and when I get back, I'll be ready to go. I'm just not quite ready to go... yet.
