Snubbing the White House: (continue reading)
What's up with the Steelers' James Harrison AGAIN declining the honor of going to the White House and visiting with the President as Super Bowl champions? Harrison says if you want to see the Steelers, invite them when they DON'T win the Super Bowl. Huh?About the only thing you can say for Harrison, he is consistent. He also turned down a trip by the Steelers to the White House and then President George Bush back in 2006.
Gruden Good for MNF?
I can't say I'm real excited about Jon Gruden joining the Monday Night Football broadcast booth. He could surprise me and do an excellent job. He definitely knows his football as a head coach who'll probably jump back into the fray in the next year or so. Whether that expertise translates into a comfortable, appealing style as a broadcaster remains to be seen.
Jeff Gordon's Back Pain:
I was a little surprised Jeff Gordon would have a procedure on his back right before one of the season's biggest races, the Coca-Cola 600 in Charlotte. I would have thought maybe he could have done that back in April when the circuit had a week off between Texas and Phoenix. But Gordon said he actually timed the procedure to give him relief before the grueling 600 miles at Lowe's Motor Speedway. Makes sense... that's why he's a four-time champion (and I'm a tv sportscaster).
Wrestling vs. the NBA:
Last but not least, who's gonna back down in the World Wrestling Entertainment's arena controversy with Denver Nuggets owner Stan Kroenke? It seems months ago, WWE booked the Pepsi Center in Denver to tape its popular Monday Night Raw Event.
But now the Nuggets and Lakers are playing Game Four of the NBA's Western Conference Final that night in the same arena.
Something, and somebody, has got to give. But you know, it's great publicity for wrestling and WWE owner Vince McMahon, who's already challenged the Nuggets owner to a steel-cage match. Leave it to Vince!
