I had an idea Chatham and Altavista had a shot but I didn’t fully commit to it. This is from my blog post two weeks ago:
High school ranks - we've passed the districts and we're onto the regionals. I still haven't seen an area team that I think has a real legitimate shot to win a state title. I hope I'm wrong. Teams that have a shot to make some sort of a run: Chatham baseball, Altavista softball, Tunstall baseball.
So I was wrong but I’m glad I was. Covering those teams in Radford was great. The Altavista semifinal game was unbelievable. Down by one in the bottom of the 7th, Chelsea Stephens crushes a homer to tie it up and then Brooke Short clubs a double down the line on a pitch that was intended to be an intentional walk.
Then watching Chatham beat down Gate City was impressive. That game had everything a baseball fan would want: three homers, two triples, a suicide squeeze and an 11 strikeout performance.

My NBA Finals prediction (Lakers vs. Cavs) went down the drain. I did still have the Lakers winning it all. I still look good there as of now.

Those UVa Cavaliers keep on winning. They won the Regional at UC-Irvine. They won the Super Regional at Ole Miss and now it’s onto the College World Series. What’s even more impressive about this team is the fact that they’re a young team. They’ve won a school record 48 games without a single senior as a regular starter. Just take a look at everyone who played in the CWS clinching win against Ole Miss.
Jarrett Parker cf - sophomore
Tyler Cannon ss – junior (could be gone in this week’s draft)

This is UVa’s first ever trip to the CWS but Brian O’Connor could have a team that could be making regular trips to Omaha in the future.

I’ll be heading up to D.C. this week. My Reds are in town to play the Nationals. Cincinnati lost 2 of 3 from the Cubs so I’m looking forward to a nice rebound against the once again, worst team in baseball. I’ve been to the Nats ball park once last year. It’s decent. I’ll post some thoughts on it next time around.

That’s all for now. Send me some thoughts or comments.
