Two chances for precipitation show up in the forecast this week. The first comes Tuesday evening and Tuesday night, but it looks like there will be too much breeze from the southwest to allow for snow. All areas across our part of the state will just see some occasional rain showers pushing through.
A larger storm arrives from the southwest Thursday evening. Timing on this system is most critical to the type of precipitation. Right now, it looks like most of the precip comes down Thursday night into the first part of Friday. As a result, a brief period of sleet or freezing rain is possible, but it looks like most of this storm will bring rain. The amount of precip is also an open question with this storm, but the best guess now is that a third to 2/3 of an inch of beneficial rain would fall with this storm.
Once this storm exits Friday afternoon, the coming weekend looks dry and mild. Highs at least into the upper 40s, and we've got a good chance to see temperatures into the 50s either day.
In the longer range, we do not see any intrusion of Arctic air in the near future. Quite the opposite, temperatures early next week may squeak into the 60s Monday and Tuesday, then back to near normal after some showers towards Wednesday. The chance for rain showers may return next weekend (Feb 9 and 10).
