  • Well what a story that was about Margaret and Pershing Mays. When we put out the call for the greatest love story out there, we got so many nice submissions that really give hope to cynics that true love does exist.
  • Finally, some snow. Growing up in New York, the mere three to four inches that Danville saw this storm wasn't much of anything really....compared to the white out conditions I am used to.
  • An old reporter once told me, "Never let the facts get in the way of a good story." Over the years I've come to see the wisdom in that advice. Well, maybe not so much "wisdom" as "truth."
  • My first trip of this year brought me to Atlanta to visit one of my good friends. Boy, I had a blast! This was my first time there.
  • Last weekend, I did something I hadn't done in far too long: I went bowling! The ABC-13 crew was well-represented, covering two lanes and having a blast.
  • I never thought I'd feel so connected to someone I never knew, but Whitney Houston's death felt like losing an old friend.
  • Someone who changed my outlook on a lot of things passed away recently. Her name was Miriam and she died of breast cancer--not because she didn't check, she got mammograms regularly—but because for some reason, she was never told she had a tumor.
  • My attitude toward snow completely changed when I started working in TV.
  • There's a new addition in my little apartment – a new puppy named Pippa.
  • I do not like winter, snow or ice, but somehow I am going to jump into an icy cold lake this month for the Special Olympics.
  • "Have You Filled a Bucket Today?" is a way to get kids to understand that it's important to do something nice for someone everyday, even if it seems insignificant to us.

  • Getting through January is a huge step in the right direction when it comes to getting through winter.
  • I read a blog on the Huffington Post the other day by Dani Klein Modisett that I just can't get off my mind. The title "14 Reasons Why Being a Stay at Home Person Sucks" is harsh and not a true representation of what her list is about, but certainly caught my eye and had me clicking on the link to read.
  • When you're an only child, you learn to find company. I found friends, well more like pets, in the ground, the woods, ponds and eventually pounds.
  • It's 1:30 p.m., and I am waiting for the final chapter in the story of the murder of Aveion Lewis to come to a close. How time flies.
  • One minute I was savoring my PB&J after finishing up the noon show, the next – "Shelley, why don't you and Jemon head out to Appomattox?"  We'd gotten a call about a possible shooting there.
  • I love Central Virginia's natural beauty! There are so many wonderful natural features in this area, and so many activities so close by. Last Tuesday, I took my wife and daughter skiing at Wintergreen.
  • With their 70-62 win over Cornell Tuesday night, the Maryland Terrapins are now working on a win streak of seven games.
  • It is a new year and it is time to make some changes.

  • Well here we are, my first winter as a dog parent, and I'm not sure what's best for him! Cadbury is still a puppy at the guessed age of about a year and a half old now.
  • For many, the week between Christmas and New Year's means a lot of time off to spend with family and friends. For us at WSET, this week means a lot of time preparing for two big bowl games.
  • It is a place where people are silent. Some people bow their heads, some gaze at the stones, and others cry. If you have ever visited the April 16 memorial on the Virginia Tech campus, you know how it feels to stand there and see those stones.
  • What I love most about this time of year is the food. I have a serious sweet tooth. Chocolate is my weakness, but I can't think of much I'll say no to if it's offered to me.
  • Ut Prosim. "That I may serve." It is the motto of Virginia Tech.
  • The events that unfolded in April 2007 on the campus of Virginia Tech will never leave my mind.  I was on the desk here at ABC 13 from the very beginning.

  • When my wife and I went looking for a dog, I told her I wanted one that knows how to relax.
What we ended up getting was completely different.  Scooby Stevens is a workout warrior.
  • Tuesday marks one of the busiest days of the year for us in the news business. It's also become one of my favorite days of the year. We're talking about Election Day.
  • For my Halloween piece this year, I checked out some really done-up homes in our area.
  • I'm terrible in the kitchen and I've just never enjoyed cooking. Now I'm looking for any advice on how to make cooking more enjoyable.

  • It's been about a month, but people are still talking about Natural Disaster Week. And I had a unique perspective on those rare occurrences.

It's hard to believe summer is over and the kids are in school. The other night we went to my son's "back to school night."
  • In two weeks I reported on two protest stories that revolved around our Founding Fathers and their interpretation of the First Amendment. The protests I covered were in different towns, but the message they sent was exactly the same.

  • If you ever really thought that all US forces would be pulled out of Iraq by the end of the year you are a bit naive.
  • That's what makes life in Danville so charming. It's simple and it's meaningful. That's what makes what I'm going to say next so difficult.
  • It's amazing how life can change. I left WSET and Virginia three years ago a newlywed. Now I'm back a mother.
  • I moved to Danville, VA just about two weeks ago. It has been quite a different scene that what I am used to, having grown up so close to the Big Apple.

  • I have to admit – I've gotten caught up in the newsroom's latest craze.
  • As the story goes I was supposed to be born on July 3rd, but as day turned to night it became apparent to my mother and father that I was holding out.
  • Now that I have a dog, I thought I just had to do my part to help the city get a dog park. So last Saturday morning I loaded Cadbury into the car to be part of the video "Friends of the Lynchburg Dog Park" was putting together.
  • Father's Day in the era of "the great recession" seems to take on a new meaning. And this year, there's some good news and some not so good news.
  • I love summer. The warm (ok, hot) temperatures, the long days and the smell of sunscreen. I also love going to the pool.
  • There are very few things I dislike more than a freezing cold winter accompanied by those blistering chills that cut through even the warmest jacket.
