Valentine Seeks More Open Government

Virginia's General Assembly session starts next week - and Lynchburg's Delegate says she plans to fight for a more open government. Shannon Valentine is working on a bill that would make all sub-committee votes public.
Right now, any two lawmakers can kill a bill without the public ever finding out who they are. She's also helping write a bill that could make Virginia politics more competitive.
Every 10 years, the majority party in Richmond gets to re-draw district lines, often to its benefit. Valentine thinks it's time for change.
Del. Shannon Valentine, (D) 23rd District - "I really believe, regardless of who's in power after the next census, they should not have the right to draw the district lines -- that it really should be a non-partisan or bi-partisan panel. And, I think this is the right time for Virginia to make that decision."
Delegate Valentine also hopes to find more money in the budget for mental health issues.
