Across the ABC 13 Viewing Area - Busy night of Friday night hoops. We begin at Altavista, the Colonels taking on a tough Dan River squad. 3rd quarter, here's one for the highlight reel. Darren White, check out the elevation. He actually twisted the back board with that dunk. Wildcats up by 13.
Then Diarra Eubanks on the in-bounds pass puts it up for White and with one hand he puts it in. He had 21 points. Back the other way, the Colonels cut into the lead. Delvin Woodruff hits the three from the corner. Woodruff had 11 and Altavista's down 11. But the Wildcats were too good. Trey Edmunds gets it to R.J. Myers and he gets the shot to fall as the 3rd quarter buzzer sounds. Dan River is now 10-and-2 with their 65-52 win over Altavista.
William Campbell and Nelson County from Rustburg because William Campbell's gym has some water damage. 1st quarter, Cameron Coles and the Governors go right to work. He got the shot to drop there and then he goes right to the rack. He's fouled, count the basket. Coles finished with 21. Same quarter, Steven Washington drives through two defenders, off the glass and in.
Nelson opened up the game on a 14-to-1 run and never looked back. The Generals did make it interesting. Terrance Younger with the transition bucket here but the Governors get the win 50-45.
Homecoming night at Holy Cross, Alex Kovaleski and Marie Walker king and queen of the senior class, joining the other classes at halftime of the Gaels-VES game. The visiting Bishops took command early in this one, Terrance Abbitt with a big first half, banking in the deuce here.
VES built a huge lead and didn't look back, Brandon Robenson zips a pass to Jake Pierce who lays it in. The overmatched Gaels finished the half strong, Will Hickey gets the steal and races down to score, just beating the buzzer. The Bishops, though, roll to a big win on the road 72-21.
Over to the girls, 'The Battle of Timberlake Road', Heritage hosting the Brookville Bees. Second quarter, Bianca Otey finds Peyton Thompson who uses the glass for the Brookville deuce, Bees up five at the half 20-15.
The Bees take it inside to Lindsay Sharman in period three for two of her 10. Deshauna Jackson helped rally Heritage, she led the Pioneers with nine points, eight rebounds. But Brookville's Emily Dunton scores 11 of her 13 the final quarter. Bees win on the road 46-34.
Other girls’ scores, VES knocked off Holy Cross 48-13 while Staunton River stays unbeaten in the Seminole, beating Amherst County.
Boys’ scores phoned in, Appomattox edged Gretna 40-36, Michael St. John poured in 21, the Raiders improve to 11-and-2. LCA fell on the road at Blue Ridge 62-38.
