Carvin's Cove Area Still Closed
posted 11:53 pm Thu February 21, 2008 - Roanoke Co., VA
The fires burning in northwest Roanoke County are almost out, but that's no consolation for people eager to get back to Carvin’s Cove. The recreation area has been closed for more than a week-and-a-half because of the fire. Many mountain bikers, including those at Just The Right Gear bike shop say they're waiting anxiously for the trails to reopen.
Joey Champion, Carvin’s Cove User - "There's so many different loops you can take. You can go just an hour or two ride, like leisurely pace, or you can go just all day long."
Ryan Hurley, Shop Employee - "We've already had a lot of customers say their ready to whenever we can to go up there when it's open to get up there and start hacking away at the trails and get things open."
It will be a while before even volunteers are allowed in to help repair the trails. Parks and recreation, and forestry workers have to go in first to be sure it's safe.
