Many people who have had kidney stones say it's the worst pain they've ever experienced. In our Health Check - some common myths about the stones. Myth number one? Only men get them. Turns out that men have a slight edge, but the numbers are almost even between the sexes. Myth number two? They're rare.
Dr. Culley Carson, Urologist - "Kidney stones are very common. In fact one patient in 50 will have a kidney stone each year."
Doctors say about 80-percent of stones pass on their own. They are not caused by excessive calcium, but too much oxalate. It's found in dark green leafy vegetable, iced tea and beer. The best way to eliminate or avoid kidney stones -- drink lots of water.
