Campbell Co., VA -
Virginia forestry officials say the group of brush fires this weekend in Altavista seem to be history repeating itself. Eight of the nine fires happened within a one mile section in Altavista, mostly along Dearing Ford Road. A ninth fire was reported just across the river in Hurt.
Investigators say they've ruled out any natural causes. They suspect arson because each fire started close to public roads. They also resemble seven other brush fires from last year.
Adam Smith, Virginia Forest Technician - "Altavista is creating a history of roadside fires and we've got a large case of open cases of fires that we are investigating in that area."
The Virginia Department of Forestry is offering a $2,000 reward for information leading to arrest and conviction of the person who started the fires.
