It's "Team of the Week" Wednesday on ABC-13 Sports. We feature the Appomattox County boys’ basketball team. The Raiders are headed to the state tournament for the first time in school history. They'll face King William Saturday night and the coach and players will be the first to tell you, they've made it this far because of the tough competition they've faced all season long in the Dogwood, namely Nelson County and Altavista.
Brantley Shields, Appomattox Coach - "I think it helped out tremendously. When you're playing against really good competition night in and night out it's only going to make you better whether you lose or win the game and I though that it prepared us a lot for regionals and I think it's going to help out in the state tournament as well."
William Morgan, Appomattox Sr. - "Because you're going against hard competition every night and basically you're playing against a playoff team every night you get on the floor."
Rico Rose, Appomattox Soph. - "We're playing much more physical and mentally tougher. We're trying to be as physical as we can because we know they're physical so we're going to do what we have to, to get the job done."
