A man charged with a misdemeanor for littering says that's a violation of his First Amendment rights. Charlotte County deputies charged Martin Mawyer, President of the Christian Action Network, in November.
That after he and the group distributed flyers urging the County's Board of Supervisors to change the name of Sheikh Gilani Lane. They say Gilani is a known terrorist. Mawyer's not sure exactly which flyer led to the charge, but says none of their literature is trash.
Martin Mawyer, Christian Action Network - "I would not assume that that would be littering, it would be free speech. It would be the right of that individual to educate anybody about a particular terrorist operative in their community."
Mawyer will be in court to make his constitutional argument on Thursday.
