It's one of the worst things a parent can imagine, to learn their child has developed a life threatening disease. One Appomattox family is now going through it for the second time. The family already knows what to expect.

And for that very reason, the mother of 9 year old Jacob Edwards says it will be harder the second time around. Two years ago, her son was diagnosed with a severe form of Leukemia. The doctors thought they beat it, but now it's come back. Of course you'd never know it from talking to young Jacob.

Jacob Edwards, Has Leukemia Again - "It hurts, but I don't care, ha."

On the surface, he's still a carefree little boy. He doesn't even feel sick.

Jacob - "No, I'm fine."

But Jacob Edwards is not fine. He suffers from Acute Bilineage Leukemia. We followed him on a routine trip to UVA Medical Center.

Angie Edwards, Jacob’s Mom - "It hurts deeply because there's nothing you can do, you just have to be there for him."

And this is his second bout with the rare illness. Last year, his younger sister donated bone marrow for his first transplant, which didn't take.

Jacob - "She says she'd like to help me again."

And this family's burden is not just emotional.

Angie - "Medical treatment already, he's past a million, just for the first transplant and I don't know what this one will be. But it's worth it, if it costs another $10 Million, that's fine cause I got him."

The family says Medicaid is taking care of a large portion of their bills, but they are still so far into debt, they've been forced to borrow money just to pay for the groceries. Now if you'd like to help out the Edwards family, contribute to the Jacob Edwards Assistance Fund. Jacob Edwards Fund
