A cigarette butt may be to blame for an apartment complex fire in Lynchburg. Investigators are still working on figuring out what started the blaze on Ruesens Road Saturday afternoon. They know it started as a mulch fire and quickly spread to the building.
The fire displaced several people and firefighters believe it did thousands of dollars worth of damage. Investigators aren't completely sure it was a cigarette, but something ignited the mulch in front of the complex. They're urging people be careful.
Paul Kilgore, Lynchburg Fire - "We are seeing three or four calls a day for mulch fires. And so many of these houses and apartments, the siding goes right down to the mulch."
Officials say the incident injured two fighters. Only one of them needed to be treated at the hospital.
