Money is missing from a bank in Madison Heights, but police say it wasn't a robber that struck. This crook avoided the face-to-face stick-up, and instead just broke-in Tuesday night.
He spent more than an hour, wandering around the Carter Bank and Trust, but only got away with some rolled coins. Bank surveillance video shows the person breaking in through a window. Investigators actually aren't sure if it's a man or a woman. What they do know, this is an unusual crime.
Lt. Greg Turner, Amherst County Sheriff's Office - "In 24 years, I've never seen a bank burglarized like that. With the security banks have and the way they secure the money, they aren't typically broken into at night."
Investigators tell us the bank keeps cash in a vault at night. The person could face burglary and grand larceny charges. If you know anything about this, call Crime Stoppers (web) at 888-798-5900.
