A follow-up now to the fire at Lynchburg's Maple Ridge Apartment Complex, which left some residents homeless. As we told you Tuesday, some people say Maple Ridge told them their leases were null and void because fire damaged their apartments.
A Regional Manager for S.L. Nusbaum Realty Company, the firm that manages the complex, says the comments were either misunderstood or miscommunicated during a stressful time. She says they were intended to help relieve the renters.
Jan Stemmerman, S.L. Nusbaum Realty Company Regional Manager - "But due to the uninhabitable conditions of the units, those leases were no longer in effect. With the first of the month coming around the corner, we did not want people to stress any more than they already were and have to worry about paying rent."
Jan Stemmerman says she has contacted every displaced resident and her managers are working to find each one of them a new place to live. That includes finding them new apartments at Maple Ridge when they become available. She also plans to visit the complex next Tuesday to address any other concerns the residents might have.
