The stars of NASCAR (web|news) are back in Martinsville and ready to race after a week off for the Easter holiday and the fast Hendrick cars are back at it again.
The dominance continues. Jeff Gordon qualified first here in October and he did it again here Friday. When it comes to short tracks, every driver will tell you track position is important and up front is where you want to be as much as possible. So the 24 will lead them out on Sunday but when it comes to the finish line another Hendrick driver has been the one getting there first.
Dale Junior is ahead of both Gordon and Jimmie Johnson in points but Martinsville is a track he has yet to win.
Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Qualified 22nd Friday - "They've always run really good and won races here and we've seemed to be able to run in the top five quite often. I do like the track and I would like to win me a clock. Tony Junior says he wants a clock."
Jeff Gordon, Seventh Career Martinsville Pole - "It impressed me. I'll be honest with you. It impressed me that to run that kind of lap time. I never thought we could and it just tells you great work by the team."
Here's a run down of the top 20 qualifiers. Denny Hamlin follows Gordon. Jamie McMurray starts 5th. Kasey Kahne said he had a top ten car. He was right. He'll start 6th. Kyle Busch, Tony Stewart and Jimmie Johnson 8-9-10.
Kevin Harvick goes 11th followed by Bowyer, Newman, Kvapil and Reutimann. Michael Waltrip is 16th. Greg Biffle 19th and Kurt Busch rounds out the top 20.
Gordon as you saw qualified first but he says Jimmie Johnson and Denny Hamlin are the ones to beat. Both of them start in the top ten. Dale Junior will start 22nd.
