The Liberty Flames (web) baseball team did something Friday it's never done in the history of the program. The Flames played their first game under the lights at Worthington Stadium.
The new standards just put in and fans came out in droves, nearly 32 hundred on hand. It was a great atmosphere for baseball, Big South opener for the Flames who had been struggling coming in.
On Friday, they got started early. Bottom of the first with a man aboard, P.K. Keller drives one to right field. The park's not going to hold it. With that homerun, it was 2-0 Flames over the 18th-ranked Chanticleers.
Liberty added to its lead in the third as David Giammaresi slaps one to left, plating Tim Rotola, 3-0 Flames.
Coastal, though, got a homer in the fourth to get on the board. Later, they added single runs in the fifth and sixth, then two in the 11th to win.
Coastal won 5-3. The same teams play at 4:00 p.m. tomorrow at Liberty.
