Botetourt Co., VA -
You may have seen news of a groundbreaking study on Good Morning America Monday about peanut allergies. Researchers at Duke University studied 33 children with the allergy and found that they were able to build up tolerance by feeding them small incremental doses of peanuts over three years.
Five-year-old Hanna Carter from Botetourt County took part in the study and now she has no problem eating peanuts. Her mother says that makes life a lot easier for everyone.
Kimberly Carter, Hanna's Mother - "Our goal when we started was to send her to kindergarten and not worry about the child sitting next to her at the cafeteria table who might share a cookie or a cracker or a sandwich that had peanuts or peanut butter in it."
More than three million people are allergic to peanuts. The children in the study were closely watched, and doctors warn parents to not try this study at home.
