Goode, VA - A three-vehicle wreck leaves a 22-year-old man dead. Now, folks want that section of 221 in Goode to be safer.

Folks say there are three issues here: a hill, a curve, and a busy intersection. Drivers say that area is risky, but it doesn't need to be. It's tough for drivers to stomach another accident like Wednesday afternoon's. An accident Goode resident Steve Claunch says didn't have to happen.

Steve Claunch, Goode Driver - "A stoplight at this intersection probably would've prevented it."

"People would be used to maybe paying a little more attention to what's going on at this intersection."

State Police say this car was turning left into the Goode Country Store, when it was rear ended by a 17-year-old driving this SUV. Then the SUV crossed into the northbound lane of 221 and knocked an Appalachian Power truck on its side.

Steven Dooley, Goode Country Store Clerk - "I think it's a shame that something like this has to happen."

Goode Country Store clerk Steven Dooley has seen and heard about his fair share of wrecks at this crossroad.

Steven Dooley, Goode Country Store Clerk -"I personally know four people who have been in accident at this intersection."

Dooley says dropping the speed limit or adding caution lights would help.

Gabbi Snead, Has Her Learner's Permit - "People, they're just going so fast down this road."

Claunch -"If you're not going 60 or 65 miles per hour, inevitabley you'll see somebody riding your bumper all the way into Lynchburg."

Young driver Gabbi Snead already knows the dangers of the intersection sitting at the crest of this hill.

Snead- "One little mistake can cost somebody their life. And obviously it did, and it's the worst thing ever."

VDOT (web) says they plan to review the accident report and determine if any safety improvements need to be made. For now, they say nothing is planned.
