Lynchburg, VA -
Dozens gathered Sunday to celebrate a Lynchburg soldier who died in 2005. Members of West Lynchburg Baptist Church gathered with area leaders to dedicate JJ's Playground. It's in memory of Jason Scheuerman, who committed suicide while serving in Iraq (web | news) . Friends and family members say a playground is a fitting tribute because of Jason's unique relationship with children.
Anne Scheuerman, Mom - "He loved to laugh. He loved to have fun. He was a magnet for children because of his personality. It was so bold and so big that automatically the children would flock to him."
Alan Rogers, Minister of Education - "It has also been a journey of faith; a great reminder that we serve a God that can take what seems like a terrible tragedy and bring an amazing victory out of it."
Church leaders say they spent years planning the playground. They say it also stands as a tribute to all the men and women who serve.
