The E.C. Glass Hilltoppers hosted Western Valley District leader Patrick Henry Wednesday night in boys’ soccer, Glass hoping to avenge a 5-2 loss to the Patriots in Roanoke. The Hilltoppers scored twice the opening five-and-a-half minutes.
Then PH closed the half strong with a goal and nearly two, but Jordan McCauley made one of his nine saves, Hilltoppers led 2-1 at the half. Less than six minutes into the second half, John Adams' shot is deflected but it still goes in as Glass increases its lead to 3-1.
The Patriots, though, weren't done, thanks to the great play of Fayanga Keita, number three nets his second goal of the game to pull PH within 3-2. And number three would strike again minutes later, Keita with the finisher, his third goal of the game, as the Patriots knotted the score at 3.
And that's how this one ends, a 3-all tie, Patrick Henry holds on to its one-game district lead.
High school baseball, Nelson blanked Gretna 10-0, while Amherst County knocked off Jefferson Forest 5-1.
Also in the Seminole, Heritage rolled over Staunton River 13-3.
Softball, Brookville edges Liberty 5-4, the Bees first place in the Seminole at 7-and-1.
Girls’ soccer, Liberty beats Brookville for a second straight night by a 2-0 score.
And big night for E.C. Glass tennis, the girls and boys clinch regular season titles, both a perfect 9-and-0 in the district.
