In light of the involuntary manslaughter conviction of a 14-year-old Brookneal boy, should a minor's name be made public in a case like this?
Campbell Co., VA - A 14-year-old Brookneal boy will be sentenced for involuntary manslaughter next month. The judge found the boy guilty on Friday for the February shooting death of 11-year-old Andrew Lambert. On Monday we learned the 14-year-old will be sentenced on May 1st.
There's been a lot of debate over the shooter's name being made public. In order to sit in on the court proceedings, we at WSET agreed not to release the boy's name. The News & Advance did not make that agreement, because they believed it was the public's right to know the boy's identity.
