Area baseball standouts from E.C. Glass and Jefferson Forest had their signing ceremonies Thursday. We begin at E.C. Glass, where pitcher and shortstop Mike Bergin signed to play next season with the King College Tornado in Bristol, Tennessee.

King College is moving up from NAIA to Division Two this Fall. Bergin's pitching has been key in the Hilltoppers' climb to first place in the Western Valley District, he's also a strong shortstop for Glass.

Mike Bergin, Signs with King College, TN - "We went down there, a couple of guys, a friend Josh Huffman and Shane Timberlake they're going there and we all just love it. I mean it's a nice area and it's not too far from home, but it's a good distance away from home. So it's just real nice, I like it."

Two-and-a-half hours after Bergin's signing, one of those buddies he mentioned also signed with King College in Bristol. Jefferson Forest senior shortstop Shane Timberlake will also play for the Tornado, who started the season 10-and-1 and have rolled up a 30-and-15 record.

Timberlake will join his JF teammate, catcher Josh Huffman, and Mike Bergin from Glass as part of a Central Virginia trio headed to King College. We asked Timberlake what is it about the Bristol school that attracts area players.

Shane Timberlake, Signs with King College, TN - "I would say it's probably the area is just so much like here and it's a country setting and nice people. It's just, seems like a great place to be."

William Campbell High School basketball standout Teron Watson has made his college commitment. Watson will play for Virginia Wesleyan of the ODAC, the Marlins the 2006 Division Three national champion. The first team All-Dogwood District player averaged 17 points, eight rebounds a game this past season.
