After avoiding a three-game sweep by beating Myrtle Beach last night, the Hillcats welcomed in Kinston for the first of three Thursday night. This was a roller-coaster game, after the Hillcats scored three runs in the first, Kinston struck back with one in the third, two in the fourth to knot the score at three.
The Hillcats, though, would have a big fifth inning, the league's leading hitter Jim Negrych with one of his two hits, he raised his average again, now hitting .404. Two batters later, Steve Lerud brings him home with a shot that drops in, in left, the Cats got three to grab a 6-3 advantage.
Kinston later got four in the sixth to take its first lead. But the Hillcats rally for two in the eighth and beat the Indians 8-7.
Myrtle Beach moved over to Salem for a series with the Avalanche. The Pelicans take the opener 6-2, Ryan Reed and James Van Ostrand had three hits each for Salem, Brandon Hicks four hits for the Pelicans.
