Dominion Virginia Power wants to increase your rates because of higher costs for fuel for them. The power company is asking the State Corporation Commission to approve an 18.3 percent rate increase.
That's a little less than $17.00 for the average residential customer using 1,000 kilowatt-hours per month. If the SCC approves the hike it would go into effect July 1st. Dominion is also proposing deferring an estimated $697-million in fuel costs.
Without the deferral the rate increase would have been more than 22 percent.
