Two of Central Virginia's top soccer programs, the Jefferson Forest and E.C. Glass boys, faced off Wednesday night at Lynchburg City Stadium. The last three years these teams have battled to a tie, but not this time.

Five-and-a-half minutes in, JF's David Jackson fires but the shot is stopped by Jordan McCauley to keep the game scoreless. Just over nine minutes in, the Cavs' Andrew Dempsey centers one and David Rochow is there for the beautiful header as JF strikes first for a 1-0 advantage.

The Cavs nearly made it 2-0, Timmy Bullock on the breakaway but McCauley got just enough of the ball for a nice save. Bullock did get that goal later in the half, JF led 2-0 at the half. Glass' Kell Gay cut it to 2-1 later with 10 minutes to play, but the Cavs got a late goal and win it.

Jefferson Forest beats E.C. Glass 3-1.

High school baseball, big Seminole rivals Heritage and Brookville squared off on the Bees' home field. Bottom of the third, leading 3-2, Brookville adds another as Alec Thompson's shot to shortstop takes a wild bounce, allowing Ben Simmons to score from third, 4-2 Bees.

Another Brookville run scores on Will Parson's double as Brookville increases its lead to 5-2. Heritage got one back in the fourth on pitcher Gregg Chewning's shot to center, the Pioneers added another later but fall one short. Brookville holds off Heritage 5-4.

-----

Area scores phoned in, baseball, Appomattox beat Altavista in a slugfest 13-9, Chatham won at home over Nelson County 11-1, Gavin Hylton hit a two-run homer. And in Seminole District action, Amherst County over Staunton River 6-1, Liberty wins on the road at Rustburg 4-2.

Softball, E.C. Glass wins on the road at William Fleming 9-6, while Seminole leader Brookville knocks off Heritage 14-3.
