The last 24 hours have been special, to say the least, for Brookville soccer standout Nichole Smith. Wednesday night, the Bees senior scored three goals in a win at Rustburg, the third her 100th career goal, which I'm told is the equivalent of scoring 1,500 points in basketball.
Then Thursday afternoon, Smith signed her collegiate national letter-of-intent. She'll play soccer in the Big South Conference for Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina, just outside of Charlotte, where she'll major in physical education.
Coach Webster Leith says one of Smith's best abilities is great anticipation, knowing where she needs to be. Smith is the reigning Seminole District Player of the Year who earned first-team All-State honors last season.
Nichole Smith, Signs with Winthrop University - "I'm really excited and I'm really nervous actually. But I'm just really overwhelmed with a lot of emotion, just like happy and kind of sad 'cause I have to leave my family here basically, you know, like my soccer team and my school. But I wouldn't trade it for anything, it's an amazing experience."
