Still no official cause of the Long Mill fire in Danville and no license for the company handling the demolition. That's unusual, because in Virginia, a license is required for construction, repair and removal of a structure.
But Vintage Building Products out of Whitmire, South Carolina did not have one for the Long Mill Buildings. We're told city officials exempted them. The deal is Vintage doesn't get paid for the project, they're simply entitled to all of the material they take down. A property owner says the two buildings that burned were not being actively demolished at the time of the fire.
In March 2005, another Vintage demolition, the old 96 mill in Greenwood, South Carolina, also went up in flames. Vintage says they are just as much in the dark as anyone else when it comes to determining what caused either fire.
