Man Dead in Shootout with Police

A shootout with police leaves one man dead in Campbell County. It happened Monday night in Altavista.
Police say they were called to a house on Main Street, and that's where they found 57-year-old Michael Long armed with a gun. When they told him to drop it, he didn't. That's when police say he aimed the shotgun in their direction...and the two officers on the scene fired at him.
Long was pronounced dead on the scene. The two officers involved are on administrative leave with pay.
State police are now in charge of the investigation.
