This is National EMS Week -- a time to learn about and honor the men and women who spend their careers and free time saving lives. Here in Virginia, as in most areas of the country, we have a mix of volunteer and career Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics.
Being one is one of the most rewarding things someone can do -- helping people when their need is highest. A lot of people, knowing that I am a volunteer EMT, as me how they can become one too. It takes training. Every EMT is state or nationally certified after a challenging and exciting education program. There are a lot of places to obtain training, one of them is at National College in Salem. They have a program that leads not only to a degree as a paramedic, but to a great career.
