Campbell Co., VA - The Lynchburg United Soccer Club has changed its name. On Monday at the Soccer Complex in Campbell County, Club Commissioner Tom Prest announced the new name: The Central Virginia United Soccer Club.
That means the old Lynchburg logo is out and the new CVU logo is in. The name change reflects the growth of the club with players from among other towns, Amherst, Bedford, Halifax, and Altavista.
Nearly 400 kids compete on CVU's 19 teams and over the past few years they've helped to improve the level of soccer in central Virginia.
Steve Senna, CVU Soccer Club Director, said, "I was hired three years ago and I came from Virginia Beach where there are 10,000 youth soccer players so when I came to town and I had ten travel teams and in three years we've doubled that. The numbers are just growing incredibly. We're almost running out of field space believe it or not."
