Charlotte Co., VA - Lightning is being blamed for destroying a home in Keysville. Investigator Howard Hobgood with the Charlotte County Sheriff's Department says lightning struck the house on Farmville highway around 2:30 Friday morning.
We spoke with homeowner Grover Sheldon and he says a loud noise woke him up. He went downstairs to find his couch had caught fire. He tells us his sprinkler system doused those flames, but then he went to another part of the house to find that completely up in flames.
Sheldon and his wife escaped with only the clothes on their backs. Their house is a total loss. The couple is staying at a nearby hotel for the time being.
Sheldon happens to be the former captain of the Keysville Fire Department.
