Halifax Co., VA - Christine Harris says not a day goes by when she doesn't think about her hound dog. The man accused of killing her dog, Robert Gingerich, was in a Halifax County court Monday afternoon facing animal cruelty charges.
Gingerich says the dog killed several of his turkeys. Harris decided to enter into a civil agreement with Gingerich. Gingerich can't contact Harris for 12 months, and he must be on good behavior. If he does this the charges will be dropped.
Harris says she's still angry with Gingerich but she's ready to put this behind her. Gingerich tells us back in December that with 11 kids to feed, the turkeys that were killed, meant a lot to his family.
Harris says if he had just told her about the turkeys before allegedly killing her dog, she would have paid to replace all of them. She says she is satisfied with the agreement, but her friends at the Humane Society say they are still upset.
Christine Harris, Dog Was Shot - "I want it to end, just every day it makes me mad but I've been taught as I've grown up don't hold grudges, you gotta just forgive and forget so that's what I'm trying to do."
Cheryl Watts, Halifax Humane Society - "He had already admitted face to face that he had beat the dog, and then in court today the attorneys pretty much negated that fact and the judge was pretty much told that that did not happen."
Although Harris says Gingerich initially told her he beat the dog, she says an autopsy shows her dog had no trauma and that he was killed by a gunshot.
