Halifax Co., VA - A Halifax County family is holding onto hope that their loved one is still alive. 48-year-old Hattie Brown has been missing since mid May. Her sister, Diane Brown, saw Hattie just hours before she went missing.
The two were at their brother's birthday celebration. Diane says Hattie was in good spirits when she left the party around 11:00 that night and was seen at the Sheetz in South Boston three hours later.
A security camera caught images of Hattie- along with her 30-year-old nephew. Police say they've been in contact with him. Meanwhile, the family is just praying Hattie is alive and safe.
"Its been hard, very hard. You just spend your time wondering 'what happened?' 'Is she okay?' Like I said, it's just a roller coaster," Diane Brown said.
Commonwealth's Attorney Kim White said, "What we keep focusing on is how close she was to her family and we expect that she would be in contact with her family if she was able to be."
Police say Hattie's nephew is a person of interest, but they are not calling him a suspect. Investigators are looking for Hattie's car, a silver, 1993 Volkswagen Jetta that looks like the one pictured below. The plates read DV 20505.
Police are offering a reward for information leading to her safe return.
