It's a lawsuit that could cost the government billions of dollars and it's being led by farmers here in Virginia.
A number of black farmers say they were unfairly denied loans and subsidies from the USDA. The new farm bill allows them to re-file their claims.
Some 75,000 farmers could fall into that group, meaning the government would have to pay several billion dollars in damages.
The Virginia-based National Black Farmers Association filed the suit Monday.
John Boyd, Farmer - "I'm excited about burying a very old hatchet certainly there's other things I want to do, but this always seems to keep me right back in the midst of things so this is something we want to do as quickly as possible."
Almost 900 southern farmers have filed so far. John Boyd expects at least 5,000 more to follow.
