It's been a long first half for the Hillcats, but the 'Cats have played well of late. They had won four of their last five entering tonight's home series opener with Kinston.
Top of the second, no score, Jim Negrych knocks down a shot at the hot corner, stands up and guns down Cirilo Cumberbatch to end the inning, nice play by the 'Cats Negrych. Next inning, Kinston keeping Negrych busy at third, another chance, not really, TERRIBLE hop at third, the Indians got two in the inning to grab the lead.
Bottom of the fourth, two outs and the bases loaded, Jared Keel lines a shot to left-center that just got by the shortstop, Steve Lerud and Kent Sakamoto score to tie the game at two. Next batter, Greg Picart drives one to center to plate two more, Lynchburg four in the fourth to take a 4-2 lead.
In the fifth, more 'Cats defense, Sakamoto leaps at first to start the 3-6-3 double play. Lynchburg led 5-3 after six, but Kinston scores four runs late to pull it out. Final K-Tribe 7, Hillcats 6.
Salem also drops a heartbreaker at Myrtle Beach, blowing a 4-0 lead. The Pelicans score three in the bottom of the ninth to squeeze out a 5-4 win.
