High prices at the pump aren't just affecting the cost of food. Now it seems that even ministries and religious groups are feeling the crunch. We talked to two Amherst County ministers who have to cut back on spreading God's word.

Fuel prices are keeping this traveling duet grounded. Jay and Elizabeth Roberts always travel to prisons to sing to inmates. Now it seems the Roberts' ministry might be on lockdown. It's the uplifting gospel melodies that keep Salt and Light Ministries in such high demand. Jay and Elizabeth Roberts started their ministry 10 years ago and haven't looked back.

Elizabeth Roberts, Salt and Light Ministries - "There's such a joy and fulfillment inside that you just can't get anywhere else."

For the past 8 years they've shared Christianity with prisoners all across the United States. From Virginia to California, the Roberts have saved hundreds.

Jay Roberts, Salt and Light Ministries - "Look to see where God is working and join him in his work."

Jay and Elizabeth realize the importance of spreading Christianity to prisoners, but high gas prices are keeping them grounded here. Where Salt and Light ministries used to minister to 6 or 8 prisons each month, now they can only preach to 2 each month.

Elizabeth - "There's other prisons that have asked us, 'Please come.’ And we're like, 'We can't because we just don't have the gas money to go."

The Roberts have letter after letter thanking the ministry for helping them find Jesus, but now it's the Roberts who need saving. For the first time ever they missed a car payment, but that won't stop Jay from serving as God's instrument.

Jay - "The best part is knowing that I'm laying up treasures in Heaven. That has to be it. A lot of times it goes unnoticed here, but we know we're doing what God wants us to do, and the rewards coming."

Salt and Light ministries used to get fuel money from its parent ministry, Hope Aglow. A lot of that money was diverted to Southeast Asia to help with Tsunami recovery.

I am a  close friend of Jay and Elizabeth Roberts, and I am just begining to join forces with their ministry. They work hard and do a great job at what they do. I strongly encourage everyone to hold their ministry up in Prayer.
