A Gretna man will have to serve 18 years in prison, after stabbing a man to death last July in Altavista. Mack Wayne Pannell pleaded guilty in March to 2nd Degree murder. Police say he killed a Petersburg man, Herman Kelly Sr. on Toddsbury Road.
When police got to the scene, Kelly was already dead, and two other men were wounded -- one stabbed, another hit with a bottle. The victim was a funeral director. Pannell has also been ordered to pay more than $3,200 to the funeral home for his burial expenses.
