A Lynchburg couple were among the first to take advantage of California's ruling this week that legalized gay marriages. The co-founder of Soulforce, Mel White tied the knot with longtime partner Gary Nixon.

Soulforce is an activist group dedicated to peacefully fighting what they call "religious bigotry." According to the Soulforce newsletter, White and Nixon married at the church where they first met, All-Saints Episcopal in Pasadena. Many members of Soulforce were already in California for a six week mission to churches when the ruling went into effect Monday.
