In the Carolina League, it was a special day at City Stadium Sunday. The field is already named Calvin Falwell Field and Sunday it was Calvin Falwell Day in the city of Lynchburg. The Hillcats organization recognized Falwell's more than 40 years of service to area baseball, including the Lynchburg Baseball Corporation.
As for the game, the Hillcats gave him something to cheer about. Here in the bottom of the 2nd, Chris Watts, who's been playing for Steve Lerud, singles up the middle. Kent Sakamoto hustles in from second and Lynchburg has a 1-nothing lead.
Two batters later, what a day for James Barksdale. Batting in the lead-off spot he went 3-for-5 with 4 RBIs. This two-out single brings home Jared Keel. It was 2-zip Cats. Tony Watson pitched 6 innings, struck out 7 and allowed only two runs. Lynchburg racked up 7 runs in the 5th. They win 11-to-2 to take two of three from Myrtle Beach. The Hillcats are off for the next three days for the All Star break. They're back at home on Thursday.
