Bedford County Schools say they might have to reconsider the way they buy fuel for their buses. In the past, the county has committed to a flat rate for the entire year. That means they pay the same price, no matter how much gas prices rise or fall.
But now, school transportation officials say it's too risky to lock-in, because no one really knows where gas prices will be next year.
Harold Jones, Bedford County Schools Transportation Supervisor - "It's just like an interest rate on a home, figuring out when to lock that rate in and that's what we are looking at here is what is the best time for us to try to lock it in to have that price consistent for the year."
Bedford Schools have to decide if they'll lock in a fuel rate next week.
