A dog that beat incredible odds in Amherst County three years ago is now facing another fight for his life. Back in 2005, Wizard spent more than a month trapped in a well and survived. Now Wizard's owners say he may have to be euthanized unless someone steps up to adopt him.
Wizard's is a story of survival.
Teresa McCrickard, Wizard's Owner - "Our vet told us he was about 3 hours away from death when we found him."
It was back in the Summer of '05 when Wizard wandered away from home and fell into a nearby well. Nobody found him for more than six weeks.
McCrickard - "We nursed him back to health and we have had him ever since... but he needs to go somewhere else to live now."
He lives in a rural subdivision with a sizable back yard. But that's just not enough for Wizard.
McCrickard - "He's the type of dog who just wants to run."
Rules that prevent him from roaming free don't seem to mean anything to Wizard. He's even been known to break through the fence.
McCrickard - "I just want him to have a home where he can wander."
Wizard's size, age and the bad economy are all making it hard to find him a new home. The last thing the owners want to do is have to euthanize him.
McCrickard - "We have already talked about that and prayed a whole lot about it and hope he's not."
They say this survivor has earned the right to live a full life. Folks interested in adopting Wizard can contact the Amherst County Humane Society or animal control workers there. They know how to get in touch with the owners.
