Amherst Co., VA - Former Amherst County administrator Rodney Taylor says he was forced out of his job for accusing a county supervisor of leaking confidential information.
You'll remember Taylor says several board members asked him to resign in April. Plenty of people in the county wanted to know why.
Taylor has now released some documents and has given us more information. He says the Amherst Police Chief authorized him to share confidential information with the Board of Supervisors about a county employee at the center of a criminal investigation.
Taylor says he shared that info with four board members, the county attorney, and deputy county administrator. Several days later, Taylor says the chief told him someone had leaked confidential information to the defense. Taylor then told police and prosecutors which supervisor he thought did it.
At a closed meeting two weeks later, Taylor says three supervisors asked him to resign for accusing a board member of a crime.
"I think I had a moral and legal obligation to share with them the information, I did. I think my actions were correct and proper, and for that I was asked to resign," Taylor said.
Taylor wants the board to investigate who made the leak. Board Chairman Leon Parrish says someone did leak information to the defense attorney. Parrish plans to make a motion at Tuesday's Board of Supervisors meeting to discuss the board's side of Taylor's resignation.
