Radford, VA -
For the first time since 1987, the Chatham Cavaliers are the state champs of Group A baseball. The offensive firepower got started early. In the first inning, Gavin Hylton does it again. He homered Saturday and in his first at bat in the title game Hylton connects on a 3-run blast. It's 3-nothing Chatham. In the bottom of the third, it's now 3-2 Chatham. Drew Kirks adds to it. All Gate City's pitcher can do is turn and watch it fly. That's outta here. It's 5-2 Cavs. Bottom 5, it's 6-2. Beau Cassada. He's their 9 hitter but he doesn't play like one. He crushes it to the gap. He ends up on third. He didn't have to slide on this one, his second triple of the day. Matt Bray added another homer and Kirks finished it up. He threw a complete game and struck out 11.
Chatham wins it 10-to-4.
Gavin Hylton, Chatham Sr. - "It's speechless. I'm so stoked right now. It's unbelievable. I wouldn't want anything else in the world."
Chad Anderson, Chatham Coach - "Kirks threw the ball really well today and the three guys in the middle of our order stepped up, hit three homers and it's a great way to send these seniors off."
